Cars ditched aside, Alicante town makes it clear that it’s made for walking. All the boulevards are clean. Its avenues and thoroughfares are as plush as can be, with wide esplanades such as the Rambla de Méndez Núñez and Avda Alfonso Sabio imparting an elegant touch to the town.
Cutting through the city is the main thoroughfare, the Rambla, which is located just opposite the port. Apparently this is the livewire boulevard of Alicante. The thoroughfare is defined by palm trees, outdoor cafes and icecream parlors serving the unusual local drink, horchata, made with almonds. There are shops by the mounds. Parks and gardens, as well as marble paved plazas can be found all along the contour of the Rambla.
Demarcating around part of the yacht harbor, the broad Explanada d’Espanya is a wide, palm-lined avenue. With a great promenade of mosaic sidewalks under the shady palms, the said avenue is widely popular in Alicante. Terraces and pavement cafés are ubiquities all along the Explanada de España promenade. The option of more modern leisure area could be afforded along the port's breakwater, where there are also many bars and restaurants. Terrace cafés are also around the Plaza de Luceros and along the seafront paseo.
All in all, the coastline, without doubt, is a renowned convergence point for recreation and relaxation.
